Evening Wind-Down: 7 Small Steps to Make Tomorrow Easier

Woman relaxing with a blanket by a warm lamp in the evening

The way you end the day shapes how tomorrow starts. A short evening wind-down helps you close the loops from today, so you are not carrying them to bed. Here is a simple version that takes just a few minutes.

The seven steps

  1. Sit quietly for a minute. Let the day settle.
  2. Name one thing that went well today. Celebrate it, even if it was small.
  3. Name one thing you are grateful for.
  4. Name one thing you want to go well tomorrow. Picture it going well.
  5. Review tomorrow’s schedule. No surprises in the morning.
  6. Do a mind sweep. Get what is taking up space in your head onto the page, which can help you wind down for sleep.
  7. Do one small thing to make the morning easier. Pack lunch, clear the counter or choose your clothes.

Keep it light

This is not a test. If you only have time for two steps, pick the mind sweep and the one small thing for tomorrow morning. Small and consistent beats long and occasional.
