Zero Resistance Habits: Built to Fail

How to Start Small and Keep Restarting

A zero resistance habit is a habit so small and so easy to start that there is almost nothing in the way. No setup, no special tools, no big decision.

Why small works

Resistance is what makes starting hard: needing to prepare, decide, find your supplies or feel motivated. Reduce the resistance and starting becomes possible, even on bad days.

How to build one

  1. Pick one habit.
  2. Shrink it until it takes about a minute.
  3. Put it where you will see it, with everything you need already there.
  4. Decide what restart looks like in advance.

Expect to fail

Systems fail. It is part of the process, especially for ADHD brains. The goal is not to avoid failure. It is to plan for it and shorten the gap before you begin again.
